Project Dashboard

A development of a project dashboard or group using Microsoft Project Server 2007 is often an executive view of the status of a project using colored indicators.  Common indicator is the schedule status using green, yellow, and red traffic lights beside some signs.

The example below is a typical project center dashboard for schedule status.

The Schedule Status Indicator Explained
When the Schedule Status is evaluated for each task, the task is tested based on a set of criteria:

  •  yes     = Complete (The Project is 100% completed).
  • Question Mark   = No Baseline (The Project Baseline is not set).
  • Green               = On Progress (The Project is on time progressing).
  • Yellow               = Potential Late (The Project actual start > the baseline start).
  • Red                  = Overdue (The Project baseline finish is due and % Completion < 100%).

Project Grouping
In addition, with Microsoft Project Server in the Project Center includes a set of groups as custom fields. The examples below are a typical project center example for project grouping.

The Project Grouping included
When the project is grouped, it will be classified based on the following:

  • Project Objective and Sub-Objective*
  • Project % Contribution per objective.
  • Project Size*
  • Project Type*
  • Project steering Committee*
  • Project Fiscal Year
  • Project Section Owner*
  • Project Owner

* Custom Fields with drop down lists that contain input for these groups were customized. Based on need, some of these custom fields were configured to be mandatory value prior to publish any project to the project web access site.
